RFU cuts

Today’s paper talks about the new agreement between the RFU and Premiership clubs which is to be agreed from this Summer for the next four years. The gist of it is that there will be a very significant cut in funding as the RFU has a financial problem. In particular it will cut the amount of money it pays for access to England players and for producing England qualified players. We will be less affected by the first part than most clubs with teams like Tigers and Sarries particularly affected. However the second part is less good news as we’ve been moving towards a high proportion of EQPs. I wonder if this will affect the salaries that some England players can command. We can do without more bad news!

This rather fits in with last Sundays' Rugby Paper front page report on how the RFU rejected an increased deal from BT Sport believing that Sky would be better. Apparently this so far has not proved to be the case. This could be a case of shooting themselves in both feet as if Skys' interest has cooled BT Sport has no need to dig deep into their pockets leaving the RFU in an even bigger mess-57 Old Farts indeed!

PMB, it's the PRL that deal with the premiership rights not the RFU.

But the RFU deal with international rights.

Absolutely right and thanks for the correction. Does this mean that we have two collections of old F@@ts supposed to be running the game we all love?
