Interesting article with video interview that covers NEv's transition as well as the injury problems.

Good article. Nice to know he can see the problems and is not afraid to admit to them, but he's got a he'll of a job on his hands with very little experience.

Accurate assessment of lack of skills. He must have been shocked initially when he arrived at Quins & premiership.

Iím sure we all agree but this seems to be a blind spot with individual players in their personal development and coaches seem oblivious to it.

NZ are head and shoulders above us in this area and have been for years. sir Clive seemed to start addressing it with England and succeeded to a point in 2003 but every team / squad have their butter fingered duffers still.

If NEV can get the academy player out of the gym and onto the training pitch to work on their ball skills for an extra hour a day that would be a win.

I wonder if skills training should start sooner - perhaps with minis?

Skills training is very much part of Mini's coaching, people however tend to stop when basic handling skills are OK. It is when pressure comes on that a higher level of skills are required and players with weaknesses found out.

Colin Osborne the Quins skill coach is very good (been coached by him personally as part of a coach the coaches event sponsored by ESPN), not sure why the team don't appear to do enough with him
