U20 World Cup

So far as I can work out, this tournament kicks off tonight at 1830 and the opening English game (against Argentina) is live streamed on World Rugby [www.worldrugby.org].

There may be other Quins players involved but I think that Marcus Smith and Gabriel Ibbitoye are both on the bench.

How is this not on BT or Sky???

Edit: just remembered ITV had it last time and do this time. But semi finals and final only. Sheesh!!

Yes, but not a good look for World Rugby that thereís no TV coverage in England when there has been previously and Irelandís games will be on TV.

It depends on whether anyone bid for it this time for UK rights. With the roundball WC on this year, it's possible that ITV and BBC decided that this was one event they could drop to save money to go twards the hours & hours of interminable soccer coverage of the pool stages before England go out on penalties in the Quarter Finals.

Now 32:18 after a couple of penalties, and Smith is on at the 63 minute mark

Smith with the 5th try with less than a minute to go. Off a great break from Olowafeya.

Jolly good!

So what goes wrong, then? In the last 10 years the U20s have been in 8 finals and won 3 times.

Well, yes, but ...

Aren't we similar with football or am I confused. Could be both.

Our recent record in age group football is superb, iirc.

We have no divine right to win these tournaments. The kiwis usually have the best team. We are sometimes in the final despite not having anything like the talent of a couple of other sides.

As long as they keep doing well and we keep getting a good mix of quality club players and some good internationals out of them, then it's job done.

Barring a blip it is usually between us and NZ.10 tournaments -

NZ 6 wins 1 RU
England 3 Wins 5 RU

The football age groups have done very well recently. St Georges park, the FA training base received a lot of praise for the change in set up.

I thought ITV already had all the World Rugby comps (RWC, U20s and Women's WC) until 2020
