What are the odds?

Way back in January I placed a cheeky £10 bet on Saints to win Premiership Final at 40/1.

I checked today and I can cash this out at £14.46....the question is.....should I?

Unless you really need £14.46 no. However you could cash it in pocket the original bet and put the "free" £4.46 on Saints to win at 18-1 the current odds. That way you cannot lose but still stand to win £85.

Had an e/w bet for them to make the final at 33/1 before the season started. One game to go.

I wonder what the odds are for a Saints v Glaws final..

Amazingly low. Glaws are 5-1 to win and Saints 4-1 so a double would only give 20-1 odds.

I'm not much of a gambler - how exactly does 29/1 obtain here?

Stake 1 at 5-1. Win 5 plus stake so total return 6.
Stake 6 at 4-1. Win 24 plus stake so total return 30. So odds are 29-1.

Thanks, I think I follow now. So odds combine differently to probabilities, which is how I guess many (myself included) would intuitively try to combine them.

It is probabilities but you add one on each odd and then subtract one from the result.

So 4-1 becomes 5
and 5-1 becomes 6.

5*6 = 30 and then subtract the stake to get 29-1
