It may be time to offer him a transitional role into the coaching set up.
That way we could still have him to call upon but perhaps on a pay per game basis.
As much as I would like to see him back to full fitness and a full season, financially its not becoming efficient.

This is when it would be great if we had a Johnson/ Thacker type hooker... one who is comfortable playing Back Row or at 2, meaning we would have a secondary cover should Dylan start then have to come back on to cover an injury.
Daft Dave Ward is out of contract at Quins..........

you’ve probably got more chance of seeing me in the saints squad than Dave Ward!
He really isn’t popular with some of our guys

Walks, my interpretation is the worry is that the knee won't stand a full game rather than his general fitness.

With Mike H, Reece, James and Samson coming through I'm not sure we'd need a 5th hooker - particularly ahead of Samson. We've managed since Christmas with three plus DD, and next year Mike is back.

Why would we want Dave Ward back when he was at best a club player first time around. Why would Matti Williams want to come back when he left us I believe through lack of game time and I’m sure he has resigned at Woos anyway.
If we want to speculate on a new hooker we should set our sights much higher. Malcolm Marx anyone?

Something I've wondered.... Let's say Dylan starts on Saturday, gets injured, and has to come off.
Replacement hooker then gets injured and has to go off.
We'd go to uncontested scrums (not a bad thing based on out previous meetings with Chiefs?), but would we be able to bring on a replacement for the replacement hooker?

Interesting. One assumes (so one is likely wrong) that such a replacement would not need experience as a hooker or even front row as scrums go uncontested. Opens a few opportunities up - could have an extra back on the field. Lineout might go wonky, mind you.

I think you are, yes. Don't uncontested scrums have to be agreed to by the other team in this scenario?
Either way, wouldn't like to win this way - feels beneath us.

If we go to uncontested scrums we also go to 14 men

But at least we wouldn't be shipping scrum penalties :-)

As much as I would be delighted to see a fully fit Dylan leading the cause, I am concerned about his history of concussion.
Aside from that irrespective of his fitness, countless times I have heard players / pundits commenting there isn't any training like an actual match. Dyls has been out for so long I am not sure that he will be up to speed.
