That Saints pack will do well to hold it's own.Still persevering with Wood and Gibson at 6 and 7 and an interesting selection at 8.

Surprised that Francis is left out and still no Mallinder

Injuries definitely taking its toll for us In that team selection which if it were a premiership match would be still an ok side but against Leinster in Dublin .......
Last two times I went to Dublin were totally different occasions - One where Mallinder put out an under strength team and totally ruined the weekend with an absolute embarrassment and the other where Jamie Elliot took the last play of the match the length of the pitch to win it for us. I think we may be somewhere in between those two with this team and could struggle to get parity with them through the game.

Unfortunately I think this will be a bit of a hiding for us, but I hope I'm proven wrong.

Back row looks a bit odd and thereís been thoughts before about the Gibson/Wood combo and that it doesnít seem to work well. Their backs still look stellar and so much for James Ryan not playing. Nothing to lose to be honest. Hope we give it ago and the boys enjoy it and I hope we donít take too many knocks. I think Iíd have kept Dan back for next week v Sale.

I feel we will be very well educated after our trip to Dublin.

As I'm off to Dublin naturally disappointed that we aren't at full strength but understand why we aren't. Looks like Ribbans and/or Lawes will be back next week as I can't see Api starting after his shift against Leicester and x2 against Leinster.

A big challenge but who knows...

I suspect 8 is to rest T but agree on Francis - he hasn't played that much rugby has he so is this to rest him or a tactical decision to add extra bulk? Personally as well as Symons was playing I would have really liked to see Francis and Proctor play together.

Surprised no Mitch Eadie and Tonks on bench instead. Before the season he was being talked up and heís not on injured list. I rate Tonks though. Is Ludlam the answer to sharing the load at 8 with Harrison?

Matavesi can cover 8 ...

Perhaps one (or both) eyes on the lineout? Gibson and Wood both good jumpers and Ludlam also decent despite not being lanky.

Definitely very one-sided in terms of experience but let's see, if nothing else some great experience for some of the youngsters.

I'm relaxed that the selection makes an unlikely away win even less likely. It will speed up the learning curve and provide invaluable early big game experience to the youngsters.

However, we keep playing smaller flankers at 8 showing it's an issue position if the back-up players Eadie and Uru are not trusted given Boyd is happy to trust a kid like Tupai.

Against the best our pack gets shown up like Exeter at the end of last season. Our scrum was beaten by Treviso's scrum; whose scrum was beaten by Leinster's. Leinster's scrum was beaten by Lyons. So we clearly have the weakest scrum in the pool. Whilst with our back play we don't need a dominant pack, we do need a pack that can hold its own.

I get what you're saying about the 8 position but I think it's a little unfair to single out Uru. He's still young and very green in terms of top flight rugby.

I'd expect to see him feature for the Wandies then see for next season.

My point was about proper 8 cover rather than singling players out.

I wasn't singling Uru out as I talked about Eadie equally. But given you raise it. A bunch of players selected v Leinster are also v green and younger than 22 year old Uru. Sleightholme is 19, Tonks 19, Tupai 20, Coles 20, Dingwall 20, Grayson 21, Painter 21

But the bottom line is we are picking flankers as 8s because for whatever reason we don't trust the specialist 8 cover.

No mention of Eadie who also doesnít feature in the list of injured players. I wonder why we keep him to be honest. If he isnít considered for selection in the 23 for a game like this considering we are resting a number or others are injured, then he isnít really of any use to us.
