Matt Holt was one of the first signings to the
Tykes first Premiership squad in 2001. He had played four years in the tough
Waterloo pack after coming to the UK from Australia.
In Australia he had played for the Queensland Reds U19 and U21 side as well
as the West Brisbane club.
A strong, powerful hooker he was the Tykes first choice hooker last season making
17 league appearances. He is considered a strong scrummager and these skills
have been put to the test this year as an injury crisis in the Tykes props resources
have seen him start and provide cover from the bench at
tighthead prop.
He remains a key squad member at the Tykes covering the front row positions,
and also possesses that increasingly rare quality, a lack of vulnerability to
injury. He is also a true Tyke - if an adopted one - if only on the strength
of this posting on the club official board a little while ago by a Mr Senior
-
"Three seasons ago my son was part of a team coached by Matt during the school
holidays. He was very helpfull with all the team. He was very good with my son,
who had not played before, and soon had him inspired. The upshot is my son has
just got in the Lancashire U16s school side, I think a lot of this was due to
the great influence of Matt on a player willing to learn. We are glad to see
Matt at Leeds and always watch when on TV. Thank you Matt"
