Amid the trouble at Molineux due to the sheer demand of tickets, one thing came out of the day which just added strength to what we already believed, Wolves fans really are Golden.

Wolves are on the verge of taking to the field for what will be the biggest game for the club in the last 20yrs. Winning the game could bring Wolves as much as £30M, but more importantly, winning the game will see the Famous Old Gold Shirts back amongst the elite in the best league of the World, the Premiership.

Wolves were left in an sticky situation on Wednesday after after thousands of fans turned up at Molineux to claim their Play-Off Final ticket for the match against Sheffield United however the 13,000 which were reported to be on sale was in reality 5,500, a figure less than half previously reported.

Police had to be called to settle unrest amongst fans who were all desperate to grab a ticket, but Wolves had to turn thousands of fans away due to the small amount of tickets left.

This only proves that Wolves fans are amongst the best in the World. Fans camped out for 24hrs to ensure they had tickets for both the home and away games against Reading, and some fans camped out for more than Three Days to claim their ticket for the final.

Jez Moxey who was heartened at the amount of support still out there for Wolves explained the ticket situation to IC Birmingham.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever been in the First Division play-off final,

“Given the sense of history about it and what’s at stake, understandably everyone wants to be there for that game, so we were never going to satisfy everybody.

“But what happened on Wednesday has not so much taken us by surprise, so much as reinforced our belief. Some people had spent two nights camped out there, braving the cold, wind and rain, in sleeping bags, with temporary stoves on the go, purely on the strength of an announcement of when the tickets would go on sale.

“We already knew from the size of our internet operation what a big club we are. We already have 100,000 regular users of our site but maybe it’s only when you get a big game like this that you suddenly see it and feel it.

“We had a call centre helping us sell to season-ticket holders earlier this week and they just couldn’t deal with it. It helps underline the potential of just what a massive club we are.”

Wolves however were not completely to blame for the ticket fiasco. Carlton TV made a report suggesting tickets would be on sale on Wednesday - This was false.

Moxey added "

Our main problems arose when our friends at Central TV announced that there would be 13,000 tickets going on sale at 12 noon, when all we’d said was that there would be an announcement some time during the morning.

“We then got swamped and we had to come up with a solution almost on the spot, which was the voucher system entitling the first 2,750 people in the queue to two tickets each.

“When I got to Molineux at 5am on Wednesday, we had 800 fans camped out but, after the Central announcement, the numbers rapidly swelled to just over 4,000.

“We’d sold 24,000 to season-ticket holders, just 4,000 to corporates and sponsors and we only had another 5,500 tickets left to sell.

“It is good to know that those fans who camped out for the night were rewarded. That was why we implemented the voucher system when we did but, given the weather, we just could not bear to see these fans spending any longer out in the rain.

“Obviously, there are always going to be hard luck stories in situations like this and the most sympathy I have is with those people who sat at home waiting for an announcement, as the club advised and didn’t come to the stadium at all.”
