WOLVES IN 2004 | Part Two of the five part special in which we take a look at the year passed. Today we take a look at what happened in April as Wolves saw off Middlesbrough, but were denied wins at Manchester City and Birmingham.

APRIL

April started in the poorest possible way. A "must win" game saw Wolves hammered 4-0 at home by Southampton with Kevin Phillips banging in two of the goals. Henri Camara was also lucky to escape a ban following a nasty tackle on Jason Dodd.

Wolves then traveled to the impressive City Of Manchester stadium in a game many Wolves fans believed was the one which sealed Wolves fate. Wolves scored three goals and missed a penalty, but Shaun Wright-Phillips had the last laugh as his low drive beat Paul Jones to earn Manchester City a point and leave Wolves devastated.

Bank-Holliday Monday was the setting for the next game as Bolton visited Molineux. Fans who turned up at Molineux had high expectations, but it turned into the Rennie show as the referee cost Wolves dearly by waving away two cast-iron penalty appeals. Henri Camara had cancelled out Bolton's opener but Kevin Davis wrapped up the game for the visitors in the last minute.

It was a case of Carling Cup runners up the one week to Carling Cup winners the next as Middlesbrough visited Molineux.

Danny Mills was booed throughout for his part in the "Battle Of The Riverside" but two excellent goals from the new "C-Force" (Cort and Camara) earned Wolves a valuable three points.

The month ended with a local derby away at Birmingham City. Scottish International Colin Cameron had given Wolves the lead before Birmingham hit-back twice. However Carl Cort denied the Blues the bragging rights as he knocked the ball home from close range following a powerful Mark Kennedy free-kick.
