As news came into Molineux of the 3-3 tie with Morecambe we recived much happier news from Wards squad as we were told the score from Kettering.

The newly promoted Kettering Town proved to be tough opposition for Wolves, however a single Newton goal ensured half of the Wolves team got off to a Winning start.

Wolves had the better chances either side of the break however Kettering did land Wolves with a few scares.

Last seasons leading scorer for Kettering missed two chances after Blake shot straight at the Kettering shot stopper from close range.

Both sides had good chances but the tie was goaless at the half-way stage.

The second half was to host the main talking point of the match, a goal from Shaun Newton.

Newton jumped high and headed Naylor`s cross past the keeper on 57 minutes.

Trialist Marc Edworthy missed the game due to a problem with Insurance, however Grimsby trialist Simon Ford did no harm in his quest for a contract.

Final score from Kettering: Kettering 0 Wolves 1
