Dokic Injury Update.

Damir Dokic has issued a statement to a Serbian website stating that his daughter Jelena has indeed broken a bone in her ankle. More inside...

We reported it a few days ago on information from Collin Gally (jelena-dokic.com) that some of the organisers of the Collins Cup had believed that Jelena Dokic was forced to withdraw from the Collins Cup due to a broken ankle. Now, in an interview with Serbian website novosti.co.yu, Damir has confirmed the rumours to be true. (thanks to Sasha for the information)

Damir revealed that Jelena did break her ankle during the match with Serena at the LA Championships a month ago, but refused medical treatment immediately after the match. Jelena discovered that a bone was broken whilst on holiday a short while later. The extent of the injury is somewhat unknown at this point in time, but it is believed that it could take a while before Jelena is able to go back on court.

Jelena's season will of course start later than the other girls after she refused to play the Australian Open, or the tournaments which lead up to that event, for the second year running. Dokic has however commited herself to playing in the Toray Pan Pacific Open.
