Lindsay Davenport returned to Australia for the first time in 2 years after having a 9 month injury lay off and a late comeback last year.
Lindsay Davenport returned to the Adidas International, Sydney on
Sunday night to announce her return to the circuit after a long lay off.
Davenport not playing in Australia since her appearance at the Australian Open
2001 losing to Jennifer Capriati in the semi-final feels as if she has
something to focus on with her now being out of the Top 10.
"I'm in the situation that I haven't been in for many, many years, of not
being in the Top 10" Davenport said.
The American No. 6th seed in a top class draw beat Australian wild card entry
Nicole Pratt 6-3, 6-3 to secure a place in the last 16. In the next round she
will face the winner of Lisa Raymond and Eleni Daniilidou.
Other winners include Coetzer, Schnyder and Panova who all had tough 3 setters
to seal victory.
