Petrova keeps up her good form

Nadia Petrova from Russia needed three sets to defeat Indonesian Angeligue Widjaja. The Russian who reached the semi final on the red clay of Roland Garros only played below her standard in the second set after she had won the first set 6-4.
After
Petrova lost the second set 3-6 she took the lead in the third game of the
deciding third set. Widjaja took the first service game from the Russian but
was rebroken in the following game. Petrova found her first serve and started
to hit some winners and finaly breaking Widjaja’s service games. Petrova get
her first matchpoint on 5-2 and 30-40 but Widjaja’s serve forced deuce.
Widjaja’s error gives Petrova her second matchpoint conceeding it with a
beautiful lob for the victory 6-4 3-6 6-2.
Amelie
Mauresmo from France also needed three sets to get past her compatriot Marion
Bartoli. Mauresmo lost the first set 1-6 and just won the second set tiebreak
7-5 (5). Bartoli’s restance was broken in the third set and Mauresmo took the
match 1-6 7-5 (5) 6-4.
Barbara
Rittner from Germany defeated Italian Rita Grande in two straight sets 6-1 6-3.
