Results for day four of the WTA Championships at LA’s Staples Center. Jennifer Capriati defeats Anastasia Myskina in three sets 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. Elena Dementieva beats Chanda Rubin in three sets as well 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. Ai Sugiyama beats Justine Henin-Hardenne in two straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Jennifer Capriati of the United States managed to pull out another three set victory with defeating Anastasia Myskina 7-5, 5-7 and 6-4.

Capriati, who did suffer from a hip injury, looks a bit unfit and out of shape showed that she is a fighter and earns the title of comeback girl. She took advantage of Myskina’s many unforced errors.

Russian Anastasia Myskina really needs her well-earned holiday at the end of the season. She never showed the same shape she was in during the season at this championship.

In the second set Capriati wasted a 3-1 lead and Myskina showed a little more spirit in her attempt to fight back. In the third Capriati was leading 5-1 before she let Myskina come back to 5-4. Capriati took the victory on her fourth match point.

American Chanda Rubin was serving for the match after she won the first set on 5-2 in the second set. Russia’s Elena Dementieva managed to take the victory after winning eight straight games. Rubin spoiled her only chance to get through to the next round.

Amelie Mauresmo already was packing her bags to leave Los Angeles. Dementieva said she felt the need to win this match and that she didn’t want to end up losing three matches at the championships.

Ai Sugiyama defeats Justine Henin-Hardenne in two straight set. It looked like Henin-Hardenne was taking a step back not to waste too much energy for the next matches to come.

The Belgium player already secured her place into the next round. This was Sugiyama’s first time she defeated a number one of the ranking.

On Sunday in the next round Clijsters will meet Capriati and Henin-Hardenne meets Mauresmo, who she named one of her best friends on the tour.
