Martinez crushes Maleeva in surprise resut

Conchita Martinez thrashed Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva 6-0, 6-0 in what was seen as a shock result during the first round of the Adidas International, Sydney

What could have been a fairly close match with Maleeva's powerful game and Martinez excellent movement of the ball turned into a very one sided contest.

The Spaniard who has never lost to Maleeva was in defiant mood not holding back making winners with the help from her opponents errors.

7th seed Chanda Rubin was made to put up a fight against Australian Cindy Watson after winning the first set on a tie-break easily wrapped up the remainder of the match.
