Claudine Schaul wins first WTA title.

Luxembourg Claudine Schaul wins first WTA in Strasburg by defeating Lindsay Davenport in three sets 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 at the Strasbourg Open final.

Davenport won the first set with ease but was hammered in the second. The top seed saw a pretty tough opponent and could not come back in the third set.

“It's a dream to win a WTA tournament”, Schaul said about her first title in her career. “I was so emotional at match point that I double faulted several time and lost that game.

”Davenport said that she was not comfortable with the conditions on court, too much wind and she did not hit the balls the way she should have. She also said that Schaul was the better player at the final with a wicked forehand.

In Vienna second seed Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi of Israel defeats Australian Alicia Molik in three sets to win her ninth WTA title 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The victory was her second Wien Energie Grand Prix title in three years.

The 28-year-old was very happy thought she was well prepared for her first match in Paris.
