Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain defeats 2nd seed Wild Card Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 6-2, 6-4. The 21-year-old from Valencia is making her main draw debut at the Ordina Open. Mary Pierce of France defeats Russian 17-year-old Maria Kirilenko in three sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Swiss Patty Schnyder had trouble with the surface of the Ordina Open Centre Court. She yelled out: ‘The balls just don’t bounce from this ground’, after she missed a shot.

After having a bye in the first round she is having little practise for Wimbledon.

The 65th ranked Spanish Medina Garrigues was leading 5-2 in the first set in no time. She somehow adapted to the surface a lot better.

In the second set Patty Schnyder was playing a little better not good enough to advance to the next round. Anabel Medina Garrigues will meet Schaul from Luxemburg or Morigami of Japan in the quarterfinals.
