Dokic family reunited.

“I'm starting from scratch. I first have to take care of some health issues (dental and tonsils). My first tournament is 2-3 months away so I have plenty of time to prepare. I haven't trained properly in a while and am nowhere near what I used to be. Initially I will work on my physical preparation. In all likelihood the training will take place in Belgrade” she told the reporter from ‘Sport’. 

Despite her father’s problems causing to be banned from tournaments and stirring a lot of commotion in the life of Jelena, she managed to climb towards the top of the WTA ranking. After breaking up with her father she started to make a downfall. The winner of 5 single and 4 double WTA titles is starting her tennis career all over again. Damir Dokic, Jelena’s notorious father, also want a fresh start: “We have looked over everything. What happened happened. She decided that it's its best to be with her family. She has already proved that she is a great player but then was hit by a crisis. It's time to mend the fences and for her to return to her former ranking”

“I consider this to be the right decision. I've returned home and that's my personal decision. As far as my tennis is concerned this will help me a great deal. My private life needs to be sorted out in order for me to be able to compete and achieve good results. I will be working with my dad and we have already drawn up a plan”, Dokic said about her return to her family.

To overcome her problems with her father she started to work with Heinz Günthardt but he could not work with her. After that she started to work with Borna Bikic in June of 2003 and it looked as if she was getting her life back together. Their work together lead into playing a final match at the Swisscom Challenge of 2003 losing it to Justine Henin-Hardenne. In doubles she was runner up with Nadia Petrova in Rome.

In 2004 she started off very well with reaching a semifinal at the Pan Pacific in Japan losing it to Lindsay Davenport 6-1, 6-0.  Her first round losses started in Paris after that tournament in February she lost first round matches in Dubai, Indian Wells, Amelia Island, Berlin, Rome, The French Open, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Wimbledon, The US Open and Beijing. Only in Doha and Charleston she survived one match and in Miami she even won two matches losing to Elena Dementieva in three sets.

“I won't be playing in Australia next year either. The plan is to return to the top 15 in 2005 and play as much doubles as possible” said Dokic who didn’t play the Australian Open since she made her return to Serbia in 2001.
