Dementieva works hard for win in Sydney

Third seed Elena Dementieva started her first competitive tournament of 2005 with victory over Eleni Daniilidou at the Sydney International on Wednesday
The Russian, who beat Venus Williams to win a high-quality exhibition event in Hong Kong last week, came through 6-3,3-6, 6-2 against the Greek and is a huge contender for this tournament.
Australia's Samantha Stosur beat Tatiana Golovin 6-2 4-6 6-2 and meets top seed Lindsay Davenport next.
And fifth seed Nadia Petrova thrashed Daniela Hantuchova 6-0 6-2.
Seventh seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland eased past Magdaleena Maleeva 6-4 6-2.
Australia's lady of the moment Alicia Molik beat Jelena Jankovic 6-3 6-4, along with compatriot Samantha Stosur impressively beating French woman Tatiana Golovin and continues her good form.
