Ground Guide: Racecourse Ground

By road: This is not a challenging ground to find. Happily Wrexham is a small town and, in the unlikely event that you do lose your bearings in the centre, you will never be more than five minutes from the Racecourse. Chances are you will approach Wrexham on the A483, from where you should join the A541 following signs for the town over the next two roundabouts. The ground is on your left.
Supporters travelling from the south should leave the M6 at junction 10a and join the M54. Leave the M54 at junction 3 following signs to Whitchurch along the A41, then take a left onto the A525 heading towards Wrexham. As you approach the town bear left onto the A5152, and motor for a further mile before turning right onto the A541 from where you should proceed as above.

By rail:  In a welcome break from the tradition of British stadia Wrexham general train station is handily placed for the Racecourse Ground. Exit the station, turn right, mooch down Mold Road for a couple of minutes and er, you're there.

Watering Holes: Unlike the south of the country, which is steeped in the rugby union tradition, the real passion of the people of north Wales is soccer. The Racecourse Ground is the home of Wrexham FC, one of three Welsh clubs in the English football league, and the surrounding hostelries reflect this obsession with the round ball (remember, this is the part of the world where Ian Rush, Mark Hughes and Michael Owen all played their early football.) The Turf, located slap bang next to the stadium, is the most popular haunt on match-days and fills up fast. A more tranquil pint can be enjoyed at any number of pubs in the town centre, which is a short walk down Mold Road past the railway station.
