The second part of our profiling of the Gwent Dragons, this time the regions backs come under the spot light. Percy Montgomery, Brett Davey, Lee Jarvis and captain Andy Marinos are included as candidates for Mike Ruddock's backline.

DRAGONS BACKS 2003/2004

Name
Position
Age
Height
Weight
Percy Montgomery
Full Back
29
6ft 1ins
13st 1lbs
World class South African who will be sorely missed during his ban. His experience will still be useful from the touchline until his return in December.
Brett Davey
Full Back
31
6ft 2ins
15 6lbs
Mr. Consistency for Ponty over the last few seasons, will be looking to make an impression during Montgomery's absence.
Richard Davies
Full Back
24
5ft 11ins
13st 5lbs
Has a good turn of pace, but can be easily exposed in defence.

Ben Breeze
Wing
29
5ft 11ins
13st 0lbs
Sat out most of last season with a knee injury. Not the fastest thing on two legs, but is affective at exploiting space.

Kevin James
Wing
22
5ft 11ins
15st 8lbs
Well built winger from Neath, powerful and fast but lacks a little direction, should develop under Ruddock.

Gerald Arasa
Wing
22
5ft 11ins
14st 0lbs
England sevens expert with pace to burn. Was with Saracens last season, where he made a real reputation for himself as a crowd pleaser.

Hal Luscombe
Wing / Centre
22 6ft 3ins 14st 1lbs
Highly rated three quarter who has the potential to become first choice either on the wing or at outside centre, that is if he can stay injury free.

Nathan Brew
Centre
21
6ft 0ins
14st 7lbs
Wales under 21 player with an elusive sidestep, only likely to feature as an impact player.
Rhys Shorney
Centre
26
6ft 0ins
14st 1lbs
Yet to really fulfil the potential he showed years ago, the former Ebbw man now has the ideal platform to make his trademark breaks.

Steve Winn
Centre
25
6ft 0ins
14st 7lbs
Having spent the last few years at Swansea warming the bench, the ginger centre will be aiming to get a few more games under his belt.
Robbie Fleck
Centre

Not yet signed, but the Dragons are keen to tempt him to the region, with the promise of lining up alongside his Bok mates Andy and Percy.
Andy Marinos
Centre
30
5ft 10ins
15st 1lbs
I must admit to not being a huge fan of the adopted Welshman's style of play, but his enthusiasm for the captaincy is infectious.
Lee Jarvis
Outside Half
28
5ft 10ins
14st 7lbs
A real let down for Neath last time around, Jarvis needs to find a club where he can settle down and prove he's more than just a boot.
Craig Warlow
Outside half
28
5ft 10ins
12st 7lbs
Unlucky to be let go by the Warriors, Warlow was a key figure in Bridge's title success. Should have a battle royal for the ten shirt with Jarvis.
Rhodri Jones
Scrum Half
32
5ft 9ins
13st 8lbs
Had a real nightmare with Swansea last season, but in the past has shown glimpses of real class.
Bryan Shelborne
Scrum Half
24
5ft 9ins
14st 2lbs
Welsh qualified through his Dad being born in Rhondda, Shelbourne possess real flair and cunning, but little else.
Gareth Baber
Scrum Half
31
5ft 10ins
12st 6lbs
Just scraped a regional contract having been released by Ponty. Very strong sevens player, with the ability to create things out of nothing.
