When the new club was hastily formed just weeks prior to 2002/3 season, Sandy Stewart had to raid the bargain bins to try to assemble a small squad in time for the season. Who'd have thought that the big skinny boy on the bench would become one of the most talented and exciting defenders we've had?
When Scott Wilson signed for the club at the beginning of season 2002/2003 he was an unknown talent. However he has now shown that he is a great player who has talent. He always tries fancy passes at some point during the game and sometimes try’s fancy flicks. Scott is also very commanding in the air. Scott was 1 of the 19 players who were released by Motherwell whenever they had their clear out. Scott made his debut on 28 September 2002 against Stenhousemuir and found it hard to settle adapt and had a poor game, compared with the standard he later set, and then was out of the team for ages. He then came back into the team on 08 February 2003 and was sent off. However he was hard done by as he won the ball but the referee said he went in to aggressively and sent him off (He had already been Yellow Carded). Scott then got back into the team a couple of weeks later as he came off the bench against Stranraer on the 1 March 2003 to replace Simon Vella (Now a Forfar Athletic Player) and played a blinder which earned him a place in the starting team for most of the games which were left in the Season. Scott played really well in most of they games and scored the winner in the Cowdenbeath game on the 15 March 2003 and this earned him a 2 year contract in the summer. When season 2003/2004 started most people expected to see Scott Wilson in the starting line-up after he served his 1 match suspension (Got sent off against Hamilton on the 3 May 2003 and missed the Morton game on 9 August 2003) however he was kept on the bench for a couple of games warning him he would have to fight for a place and he then showed us again that he was still there as he played some great games and other really good games. During that time Scott scored his 2nd goal in his Airdrie career as he scored 1 of the 2 goals against Forfar Athletic in the Bells Cup Quarter Final on the 26 August 2003.
