Dumbarton –V- Airdrie preview 14/11/03

Whatever happened to the days when one week you team were at home and then the following week you were away from home. After three home games it’s time for Airdrie to go on the road for two weeks and our first stop is the Rock and Dumbarton.
This re-arranged fixture finally went to wire concerning the decision to play it on Sunday. After the Dumbarton support wanted a Sunday Kick off and Sandy Stewart wanting the game played before the Scotland –V- Holland fixture. Eventually, the Scottish Football League had the final say, as to when the fixture would be played.
On this matter, we have now had an 11:00 am kick off versus Alloa and now a Sunday start, surely the SFL should be looking into having all leagues close down when there are internationals being played.
Sandy is looking for the team to rebound after two lack lustre performances, chances have been made and the age old “what if “comes to mind.
At least half a dozen chances were squandered against East Fife on sat and these chances need to be converted.
Sandy may also have to play a full new front line this week as up until Wednesday Alan Gow, Stephen McKeown and Jerome Varielle had not trained. Mark Roberts is reported to be out with a Hamstring problem. Add to this Alan McManus who is a long term injury concern the lack of depth in the Airdrie squad is not waiting for the Christmas period to show it’s self.
A plus point is the performance last week of Willie McLaren, Willie has just broken out of the under 21 team and is hoping to establish himself in the first team pool.
Brian Fairley of Dumbarton has two main concerns, Craig Britton with a hamstring pull and Gordon Herd as not reached full match fitness as yet. Also out is Neil Duffy after his sending off in the victory last week.

Last season Dumbarton was one of those bogey teams we just could not beat, this season we have already beaten them 2-0 at home, even with our injury problems and the Dumbarton change in form I can't see us loosing it. 2-0 again for Airdrie
