Top of the league clash Airdrie V Partick

Date: 23/11/2001 The top of the league clash may be considered by some to be a league decider but in my opinion it is still far to early in the season for this to be true.
We need the win as much if not more than Partick, a gap between us and Partick is essential at this time of the season, when pulled muscles and other injuries occur far more frequently. With a squad the depth of our own a few injuries will mean sustaining a decent challenge for the league title will be almost impossible. At last weeks Falkirk match, we only had four substitutes on the bench, if our 18-man squad drops by another one or two players, where would we stand then? The last clash between the two teams was a tough match and Kevin James will bare witness to that, after being brought down on numerous occasions either in or around the Partick box. If memory serves me correctly two or more players also marked him, I hope Ian McCall and the now recovering Brian Rice noticed this and use their tactical knowledge to gain us an advantage. At the present time Airdrie should be favourite to win this match on form alone we have won 4 drew 3 and lost 1 at home. Partick on the road have won 3 drew 1 and lost 3 and as Partick supporter told me last week there defence is absolutely useless at the moment. It will be another tight match but I see Airdrie winning 1-0. |
