Another win for Airdrie?

By Chris MacMillan Date: 7/12/2001 With the stories of being refused access into the Premier League if we win the first division, which as yet is still a long way away. Absolutely no comment coming from those running our club and rumours that the deal offered by Gemmel and Barr will only hinder any progress in the future.

Well that's the personnel points of view out of the way; lets get back to the matter of supporting the team on the park. After beating Ayr at home 2-1 and still only loosing one game in the division the odds are definitely in our favour. With team captain Alan Mcmanus recovered from his hamstring problem (let's hope he hasn't returned to soon) it looks like Neil Mcfarlane will be moving back into mid-field. Over the past few weeks our midfield has been missing something especially late in the second half when it seems like they don't know how to hold up a ball or make a pass in the opponents half. Defending in your own penalty box only leads to goals getting scored as Inverness proved last weekend. Our only injury worry Sandy Stewart, who has not been ruled out but is suffering with a thigh strain. Ayr United, who will not be receiving any of my hard earned cash tomorrow, have found themselves on an unbeaten run. A hard fought battle last week with Clyde and two home wins over Inverness have left them well positioned in the league and a semi-final match against Hibs at Hampden Park. Gary Teale is there on form player and will have to be slowed down early in the game, his mazy runs from mid-field have put the above teams under a lot of pressure. Partick Thistle are away to Inverness, which as was proved last weekend is no easy match for any team to come away from with a win. So by the end of tomorrows match I expect to be ahead of Partick by either seven or eight points. A prediction for tomorrows match is 1-2 and another good Airdrie win. I only hope that all the speculation about promotion does not dampen the spirits of the team.
