Dundee Vs Airdrie challenge cup preview

From 9th to seventh in one easy victory for the Diamonds, great what a good result does for spirits. For the past few weeks every time you were on the message board you had between 15-20 people wanting to have a moan. After one good win all goes quiet! Is it really that easy?

Bells Chellenge Cup
29th August 2005

Dundee

V

Airdrie

Care Taker Gerry Britton

Sandy Stewart

The victory over Owen Coyle's St Johnstone secures Sandy Stewart as the master over his apprentice for at least another nine weeks. The win, we are all grateful for, was a good result but the way in which we did it was impressive and gives us hope for what many saw as bleak season ahead. However tomorrow night's fixture against Dundee is just another test for the new spirit at Airdrie.
Another display like Saturdays could see us beating the 2nd placed Dundee who are the favourites to go up.
Our only concerns revolve around the on going groin problem of Martin Hardie and Willie McLaren who was strechered off late in the game. The only information I have managed to find out is that it is a knee injury, how bad or whether it will mean he will miss tomorrows game is being kept well hidden. Sandy trying to playing head games wth Gerry Britton the Dundee care taker  manager?
Many on the forum hve said that this could just be a one of result and that is accpeted with out question, but let's enjoy it while we can.

 Opponents News: - Dundee

Dundee are our managerless hosts for this Bells Challenge cup match and having Gerry Britton in control could make it an even better atmosphere as for some reason many Airdrie fans have taken a great dislike to him.
Dundee are in talks with Stranraer manager Neil Watt and this may be decided before tomorrow's match kicks off. If Neil Watt takes the job it will mean uproating from a club that he has been resonably successful at and where he is comfortable to a club in turmoil. It is a step forward but the Dundee situation and the arrival their of Gerry Britton has the stamp of Partick Thistle written all over it. Would you take the risk?
Dundee had the chance to go top of the First division at the weekend and were holding on to a one nil lead for 30  minutes, they couldn't find the winner though and it gave Brian Carrigan the chance to step up with 25 minutes to go.

Dundee have a doubt over Tom McManus but a late fitness test will decide whther he plays or not. They will also be with out Derek Soutar, Steve McNally and Callum McDonald  goalkeeper Kelvin Jack may be forced to leave for international duty with Trindad & Tobago before the game.

 Airdrie V Head To Heads

This will be the first trip for many to Dens Park, our younger fans who have only ever attended Airdrie United games will be experiencing this for the first time.

In the past we don't seem to have much luck against the Dark Blues

 Ref Review: - Kenny Clark

Kenny Clark has only been in control of one match this season, is he being svaed for high profile matches such as Dundee Vs Airdrie in the Bells Challenge cup?
Any way, last season Clark was in charge of two of our games, the first was a terrible day underneath the Gazebo at Falkirk, need i say more, the second was our 3-1 win over Hamilton. We had four booking between the two matches and he even managed to send of a Hamilton player in our fixture against them.
This Season Record: -Games: 1 Yellow Cards: 1 Red Cards: 0
Last Seasons Record: -Games: 34 Yellow Cards: 131 Red Cards: 10

 Prediction

Very tough one to predict a managerless Dundee Vs a team who has only one victory under theit belt this season.
Confidence will be or should be high at Airdrie but will it be enough to secure a place in the 3rd round of the cup?
