Airdrie Vs St Mirren match preview

It's back to reality for both Airdrie and St Mirren this weekend as we meet on league business. Both teams have done wonders knocking SPL teams out of the Scottish Cup but no we have to settle down and take our fine form back to the league.

With Brian Prunty and Willie McLaren signed up on two year contracts it looks as though Sandy Stewart can now start planning and building for the remainder of this season and for the next. The belief in Sandy Stewart and focus of the team leads them to believe we have it in us to be an SPL side. to quote Brian Prunty in today's Daily Record.
"It would be great if more of the players agreed deals to stay longer because we have the potential to be an SPL club within the next couple of years".
Once again Sandy has more or less a full squad to choose from, Garry Twigg is still on his way back to full fitness but there seems to be no other injury news.
This match has the potential to be huge for both clubs, if we want to move up the league we really have to win this match and show the others we are not just here to take part. If we do win that could bring St Mirren back in to touching distance depending of course on other result. A Hamilton win tomorrow over Queen of the South could also mean the league is opened up.
If it wasn't for the apathy that surrounds the first division this match has the potential to attract 3-400 fans. The attendance however will probably be around 2500.

Gus McPherson hopes to continue with the same starting eleven that hammered our Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell 3 - 0 in the Scottish Cup at the weekend.
The only change maybe the addition of Iain Anderson in to the starting eleven, the new signing made his debut at the weekend and may have done enough to force his way in to the starting line up. |

My initial thoughts when researching who tomorrows referee would be was OH NO we are dead before the game even begins.
Referee Iain Brines has only managed three of our matches over the past few years and two of the three have resulted in red cards heading our way.
Earlier in the season versus Queen of the South Alan McManus was sent packing in a game we lost 1 - 0 in the dying minutes.
Last seasons League cup match with Clyde another 1 - 0 defeat saw Stephen McKeown going for an early bath.
The third match was another 1 - 0 loss against St Mirren in January last year. |
