Stephen Docherty - Profile

Stephen Docherty will be a key figure this season for Sandy Stewart. It looks like Stephen will operate as the holding midfielder allowing players like Marvin Wilson and Lee Gardner to be playmakers.

Stephen signed for Airdrieonians in July 2001 for Ian McCall having previously played for him at Clydebank. He had also seen service with Partick, ironically whilst they were in Division 2. He can play either at full back, midfield or defence and even as a makeshift striker. Last season he had long spells out injured and it was late April before we saw the best of him. His agressive defensive displays toward the end of that campaign endeared him to our fans after his poor start. Sandy waged war with Stirling to sign Docherty for the new team and has given him a major role to play.
