Goals from: Willie McLaren x 3, Brian McPhee, Gary Twigg x 2 and Frazer Coyle helped devastate Dundee
It may be worthwhile stating the facts concerning Airdrie’s refusal to switch this match for Dundee’s sake. Firstly, Dundee got in to the Quarter Finals against Hamilton; this fixture was played on Saturday the 25th of February, when the match ended in a draw Sky Sports stepped in and offered to televise the match. Dundee then promptly (Sunday 26th) advertised on their Official website that Airdrie had allowed them to switch the fixture. Now on Monday 27th of February Dundee decided it would be best to contact Airdrie and discuss the matter.
Airdrie who had already sold out our full hospitality suite for this match decided that it would not have been in our best interests to switch the game.
After further discussions both teams went to the SFL committee who then decided that, Dundee had absolutely no case and decided in Airdrie favour.
We would like to point out that if this match was scheduled as a Dundee home game there would have been absolutely no problem concerning switching the match.

No one complained to the SFL about fixtures being played two days apart over the festive season and no one embarrassed their club and fans by fielding weekend teams.
Anyway, back to today’s match. It is simple it was boys against men, even though most of the Airdrie squad are still in their early twenties the gap between the two teams was seven goals.
The onslaught began from the start of the match; with in minutes Garry Twigg had a shot knocked on to the cross bar, it was a good save from Dundee goalkeeper Murray. Our first goal came from Willie McLaren, Kevin Barkey played a pass that at first look seemed to miss the target Brian McPhee, but as the ball trundled forward Will McLaren was on hand to pick up the ball and slot home from the edge of the penalty area. Goal number two came from some one touch football on the left hand side of the park McLaren, Lovering and Holmes combined to open up the Dundee defence. As Lovering made his final run in to the box, he was brought down. Where was Stephen McKeown when we needed a penalty taker? Anyway, up steps Gary Twigg who slotted home goal number two from the spot.
Goal number three came a minute later as the ball bounced in to the path of Brian McPhee he launched a sweet shot that flew over the head of Murray and nestled perfectly in the back of the net. Three – nil in four devastating minutes of play.
The game was over as a contest before it began and Airdrie were on top by a big big margin.
Unfortunately, for Dundee it was not over as Airdrie pushed on for more, our fourth was a header from Gary Twigg that flew in to the back of the net and finally for the first half any way Willie McLaren hit a powerful shot high in to the net. Five – nil at half time and Airdrie are coasting.
A brief over view of the second half, Airdrie scored two more goals through McLaren and Coyle but Dundee made two good chances that could have given the score line some respectability. Both chances were missed and Airdrie set a new scoring record for our biggest win in a competitive match.
