Financial Security at Last

For many years it has been well documented that the Western Bulldogs have had masive financial problems. A lack of sponsorship, membership and on-field results have contributed to the negative talk amongst many about the club's future.

Hopefully that is all about to change. Despite the loss of several backers over the off season, the Bulldogs have managed to find some strong financial backing. Of course, the official website has a list of those that do substantially support the club in some way.

Thursday saw more positive news, and a welcome additiion to the list. Worksafe Victoria deals with accidents in the workplace in Victoria, and also is involved in the legal side of workplace injury. They are now one of the Bulldogs prime backers, with a deal believed to be around the $750 000 mark another step in ensuring the viability of a team in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

There is even better news on the horizon. President David Smorgon has informed the football world that there are more sponsors in the mix. The more sponsors the club gets, the better the club will be. Who knows, the on-field performances may lift a notch or two.

As for memberships, the President was pleased to announce the figures with time running out to buy one. The good news is that the membership tally is now over 21 000, still ahead of a couple of clubs but below the initial expectation of 25 000. All the same, it is not too late to get the club to 22 000 if you are prepared to cough up and help the club survive.
