Former MLB coach Picciolo dies age 64

Rob Picciolo, the coach who spent two decades in the San Diego Padres organisation, passed away on Wednesday according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Picciolo began his Major League playing career in 1977 at the Oakland Athletics spending five years with the As before moving on to the Milwaukee Brewers and California Angels. He returned to Oakland for his final season in 1985. In his nine years in the Majors he hit hit .234 with 17 homers and 109 RBIs in 1628 at-bats and only walked 25 times. He was primarily a shortstop but also played at second and third bases throughout his career.
He is highly revered at the San Diego Padres where he spent twenty years including sixteen consecutive seasons as coach until 2005. In 2006 he moved to the LA Angels and held many positions until he was fired in 2013.
Tim Mead, vice president of Angels communications, tweeted on Wednesday night:
"There are certain individuals you meet in life & respect because they “just get it.” Their daily outlook is filled with optimism, laughter, caring & compassion. And they are always open to sharing those traits with others. #RIPPeach #Angels #Padres"
Rob's cause of death has not been publicised.
