Three weeks of pure misery for Reading fans, three weeks of watching bog standard
rubbish against teams that we should be beating. From the last three games
against Stoke City, Crystal Palace and BOTTOM OF THE TABLE Wimbledon we
have taken no points and conceded nine goals and scored none. Before
the game there was an air of optimism, they bottom of the table we have
got to win, haven't we? Losing to a team that have struggled all season
was unthinkable and it could surely not get any worse then the performance
against Palace a week ago but you have to remember this is Reading.
A fairly large attendance gathered inside the Madstad. Nearly 15,000
considering there were hardly any away support was not bad. Though the non
regulars that came are sure not to rush back in a hurry. Reading were completely
outplayed and hardly threatened Steve Banks goal. New loan signing Lloyd
Owusu had to settle for a place on the bench as Coppell thought it would
be a good idea to carry on with the 4-5-1 formation, Why? We are playing a
side who are bottom of the league, we should be going out in a attacking
shape not trying to capitalise with counter attacks.
After only ten minutes Wimbledon were in the lead through Small who
chipped the ball past Hahnemann who once again looked at fault and again a
defence that seemed all over the place. Ok so surely only a minor hiccup
we can get it back we have eighty minutes to do so. We we may have had
eighty minutes but we never look threatening. Under Alan Pardew we looked
dangerous, just look at the start of this season, we beat Nottingham
Forest, Derby and Wimbledon and scored three goals in each of these games
and that was in August. Steve Coppell has seemed to turn us into a boring
team that frankly are not worth watching most of the time. Though one of Reading's
best opportunities of the game fell only five minutes after the Dons took
the lead but the shot was well saved by Banks. Reading fans surely thought
things could not get any worse well they did, no defending yet again let
Lewington in to head past the diving figure of Royals number one.
Wimbledon could not believe there luck and this could be clearly seen from
the Wimbledon bench where Stuart Murdock celebrated jumping into the air.
Reading fans marched there way down to the concourse to get a beer and
start drowning the sorrows early. Well at least the caterers will be
happy!
Half Time: Reading 0:2 Wimbledon
No changes straight after half time but ten minutes into the second
half Owusu made his entrance. I am sure he couldn't believe how bad it was
especially coming from Sheffield Wednesday but he seemed to be the only
one interested and finally a striker who could head the ball in the air.
It was the first thing that had excited Reading fans for a number of
weeks. He has surely got to be starting at the Bescot Stadium on Sunday,
but you never know with Steve Coppell do you. Owusu nearly scored late on
when a cross in met his head but his header rebounded off the Wimbledon post.
McAnuff completed three weeks of misery and ruin all Reading's fans Christmas
celebrations when he rattled in a third after two previous attempts at
goal had not been cleared. It was so bad that Reading fans even started
celebrating the Dons third and singing 'Your not fit to wear the hoops' I don't
think I have seen such poor performances since Tommy Burns was manager. We
remain ninth in the table but if we were serious about getting in the
Premiership then we need a team that are passionate about playing for
Reading and that look interested, everything that we had under Pardew and
with a couple of wins things can turn around quickly. Lets have our
fingers crossed for a good win at Walsall on Sunday and a good New Year.
