POWELL CHARGED BY FA
Southampton defender Darren Powell has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association following his "off the ball" incident with Reading striker Kevin Doyle.
The Irish striker was on the receiving end of a punch/elbow which left the striker flat on the ground and with a fat lip and split tooth.
Referee Graham Poll didn't see the incident, however it has emerged within the last couple of hours that 1 of the assistant referee's did see the incident but didn't raise it, which has left Reading Manager Steve Coppell fuming;
"Immediately after the game the ref came to me and said he was aware something might have happened but he didn't see it.
"He said he was going to review the video, and having also seen the video myself there can only be one outcome and I am sure procedures will be put in place.
"If it's the case then an official did see it then shame on him for not mentioning it. That fact was certainly not relayed to me by Graham Poll, so it's news to me. If someone did see it and said nothing then they're not doing their job and shouldn't be in the job."
Former Brentford defender Powell has until Monday 6pm to respond to the charge.
The match at St Mary's ended in a goalless draw.
