MATCH REVIEW

Reading have gone to the top of the Championship after a convincing 3:0 win at Joe Royle's Ipswich Town, the 22nd match of an amazing unbeaten spell which saw the Royals last lose a game on the 6th August.

The scoreline flattered Ipswich, who look a shadow of the fantastic goalscoring team we've witnessed over the past 2 seasons.

The Royals did have the ball in the net early on, but Leroy Lita's header was ruled out for offside.

That didn't stop Steve Coppell's side however who went 1:0 up on 28 minutes when Bobby Convey broke down on the right wing, and his low cross fell to the feet of Kevin Doyle who fired at Wales goalie Lewis Price but his saved shot fell to the feet of Steve Sidwell who fired in from a couple of yards out. This was a much deserved lead.

It was 2:0 8 minutes into the second and probably game over when Kevin Doyle found space in the penalty area, and his pull back for Leroy Lita who curled it into the bottom right corner. It was Lita's 1st goal since that amazing 3:2 victory over Crystal Palace back in September.

And with 15 minutes, the 400 supporters from Reading could party and sing away when it was 3:0 after Glen Little floated in a corner from the right, which fell to the back post where Ibrahima Sonko was waiting to head it down to Lita who poked it across for Kevin Doyle to slam home into the Ipswich net.

It was a fantastic performance, with the Royals back in 1st place. But next stop is Plymouth Argyle, who are the only side to have beaten Reading this season.

The Royals are back on the road on Saturday when we make the journey down to Plymouth for a crucial match. Argyle are the only side to have beaten Reading this season, and can they upset the odds again or will Reading make amends for that opening day defeat.
