Reaction to the table-topping win at Swindon

It was a game where City were second best overall but got the only goal of the match but that goal sent City top. It rounded off a perfect October in which the Imps won all 4 of their league games, scoring 15 goals along the way and of course, City went top for the first time in years.

 

If you'd have said to any Lincoln fan before the season started that we'd be top of the league at the end of October, most would have told you to sod off but the difference between this and the last 4 years is that if Keith had been in charge yesterday, we'd have capitulated and lost easily because in all fairness we were second best on the pitch for the vast majority of the game. However, it might just be a sign of the new spirit at the squad that we're winning when not playing particulary well.

It was no surprise to see Forrester again be the difference between the two sides and he took his goal extremely well and he also created a few oppurtunities for the other playersq but our shots count won't exactly impress anyone. Forrester's goal as due to the vision of Mark Stallard and although this set up came with a defender not dealing with it, you can't help but credit Stallard's recent contribution to the majority of Forrester's goals.

We pushed our luck a lot yesterday and the central 2 defenders let the Swindon attackers in way too easily and we could easily have lost the game but thankfully, their strikers couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo during the game and it's surprising that this defence that's intent on letting strikers through, has only conceded once this month and that was during our 7-1 win over Rochdale.

As dodgy as the 2 central defenders were, Mayo, Beevers and Hughes all played exceptionally well with the latter being arguably the Imps' best player on the pitch for the Imps and it was a far cry from his efforts of a few weeks ago where he seemed scared to make a tackle. The player's performance that was slightly questionable was Amoo, he seemed very keen to give away free kicks and kick the ball out of play when under no pressure but everyone can have a bad game every now and then.

Swindon were miles better than any other team we've played up until this point so hopefully that menas that if we can beat the best team in the division other than ourselves, then it should in theory, mean that we can beat anyone because other than MK Dons and the ref they paid, we haven't lost to a top 7 side yet and none of them outplayed us (other than Swindon).

The only worry now is that having scored 15 goals, conceded just 1, 12 points and gone top from our 4 games in October means that Schofield is probably the favourite for Manager of the Month and we all know what that means.
