As former manager of Macclesfield, Simpson knew all about the talents of Fairhurst and didn't waste any time in snapping him up for the Imps in the summer of 2013.

Yorkshireman Fairhurst started his career at Doncaster Rovers and having progressed through their youth system, he broke into their first team in the Championship. He hit 2 goals in 10 games before loan spells for Solihull, Shrewsbury, Southend and Hereford, all with mixed goalscoring records.

After his released from Doncaster Rovers, he signed for Macclesfield Town and hit 13 goals in 58 appearances over a two year period.

Despite being offered a new deal at Moss Rose, he elected to rejoin former manager Gary Simpson at Lincoln in 2013.
