It's a good thing we were already there

If they Imps would have needed something out of today's game, we wouldn't have got it. The Imps played awfully against a confident and engertic Yeovil side backed by a fantastic support as the Glovers became League 2 Champions. For the Imps, it's the playoffs again.

A make shift Lincoln squad saw Hanlon and Beevers replaced Yeo (illness) and Sandwith who was put on the bench. Yeovil, as expected started the stronger and you could automatically tell the difference in this game's importance to both squads. City were already in the playoffs where as Yeovil would secure the title with a win. Aaron Davies was the first to have a go at goal when his 25 yard shot went just over.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher fed Derek (or Dave according to Yeovil's tannoy) Asamoah through but the striker fired wide from a narrow angle. An electric atmosphere from the Yeovil fans was oozing out of the stands and urging their team forward. It took a while for the game to really get going although Hanlon did almost give City the lead when he sent a curling shot just over the bar.

Despite Yeovil's near perfect domination of the game, they were failing to create any real chances and a scramble on the edge of the box saw GTF's shot blocked by Collis in the Yeovil goal and Gain blasted the rebound well over.

Yeovil started to create decent chances. The first of which came from a corner which was too long initially before Gall sent it back in and Davies shot from a good angle with it hitting the outside of the net but most fans, especially those in the stand opposite the post which the action was who jumped up in total celebration thinking the ball had gone in.

Colin Miles then almost gave the hosts the lead when his 25 yard free kick was "Beckhamed" onto the bar. It looked as though the half was going to end goalless but just before half time, good work from Yeovil saw Jevons cross the ball in which Efe Sodje headed in despite appearing to be offside by quite some way to give the Glovers a 1-0 lead going into half time.

Yeovil almost doubled the lead just a minute into the second half but Butcher kept a Miles shot out after blocking it off the line, however, that lead was doubled 8 minutes from time when McAuley tripped Way in the box despite the ball already being in Marriott's arms. Jevons stepped up and sent Marriott the wrong way to make it 2-0. Let's just hope that we don't need a penalty shoot out in the playoffs because Marriott has failed to save a single penalty this season.

Keith obviously knew the game was up, mainly because we were in the playoffs, effectively already lost and that several players looked like they simply couldn't be arsed. He brought on youth teamers Lee Frecklington and Ollie Ryan and although the impact they had showed as the Imps started playing better. However, it was Yeovil who got the next goal when Sodje headed in a header. The full time whistle went and Yeovil hit the roof, League 2 champions and we here at theimps.tk would like to congratulate you on another promotion.
