With four games of the season left for Walsall to retain their first division status the internal structure of the club has totally imploded.

Walsall owner Bonser has finally had enough and cut short Lee’s managerial reign after he went ahead and spoke to Plymouth about the vacant Pilgrim’s managerial post. For Bonser, there was simply no other option available to him as Lee’s reign had surely become untenable.

Following on from Lee’s exit, first team coach Bracewell has also decided to leave the club presumably in support of his former boss who took him to the club.

Given that Kerr and Gooding were released from their posts a few months ago the back room staff is now virtually non existent. Presumably Halsall is still at the club along with Whitney and the ticket office girl.

Given the likelihood that the miniscule playing budget is going to be cut back further next year and most of the players are out of contract is the club now in crisis.

Is it necessary to bring in a new manager immediately or should we wait until the end of the season? As the players are going to be out of contract, if no manager is in place then who is going to say who should stay and who should go? Also, it is highly unlikely that out of contract players will want to play for a manager unknown.

At the moment it looks all doom and gloom but i have a sneaky feeling that against all the odds, the temporary managerial team of Merson and Osborn are going to pull off the result of the season coming back from Carrow Road with a share of the spoils.

On a positive note, Merson has already said that he intends to put out a positive attacking side that has intentions of getting shots on target. Whether Carrow Road is the right place to do this is questionable but it does make for a refreshing change.

If the players can put the recent upheavals behind them and give their all for the club in the last few matches then there is every chance that there can be another re-enactment of The Great Escape.
