Warriors 14 Bristol 36

Westcountry Warriors lose the run of the ball for 20 minutes and the game by 22 points.

The final score does not give credit to the effort put in by our boys today.  It all started well with a penalty in front of the posts and then an extra 10 metres made it easy for Nick Defty to put three points on the board. But a charge down on the line with Bristol moving fast to catch up with the ball before it went over the dead ball line brought the score to 3 - 7.  Handling on the ground by Bristol on the the 22 gave Nick his second chance which he took to leave us trailing by just a point.  Nat Saumi then ran from his own half only to be tackled into touch on the goal line. Nat did not have to wait long for his next chance and this time he made no mistake in using the overlap running clear and touching down in the corner.  Bristol scored in the last play of the half from a collapsing maul which was not converted.  11 - 12.

At the change around Bristol wanted to return to their changing rooms but the ref called them back as we were just having a quick change due to the failing light.  A penalty ten minutes in returned the lead to the Warriors with Nick kicking again but almost immediately Bristol came back with a converted try.  Stuart Friswell injured in the try was still down receiving treatment when Bristol again scored but this time failed to convert but it gave Bristol a ten point advantage.  On the hour Bristol passing the ball out wide managed a further try in the corner but when it came to the conversion the ball hit the upright and bounced back. The damage was done by now and despite a number of substitutions we were unable to score but allowed Bristol seven more points before the final whistle.

A somewhat disappointing result with a number of decisions going against us and a short period when Bristol had control of the run of the game.  We may have been at a disadvantage with players on the pitch that were playing a full part in Devon U20 beating Gloucestershire yesterday 31 - 19
