White Steps Down As Yorkshire Captain

Craig White has decided that now is the right time to hand the Yorkshire captaincy on to someone else. The favourite to take up the reigns is Anthony McGrath who was captain before White took over. England calls up prevented McGrath from getting the most out of the role at that time.

White told his teammates of his decision in the dresing room at the end of the drawn match with Durham. The result which confirmed Yorkshire's status in county crickets top flight next year was the culmination of a season where White has bravely led his side to safety. White said "Now is the appropriate moment to go. I led Yorkshire to promotion last season and we have stayed up this year. I am proud of my record. I still have a year of my contract to run, and I look forward to playing under a new captain next season, whom I will back to the hilt."

Another possibility for the captaincy role ay Yorkshire is Pakistan test player Younis Khan who is tipped as a likely overseas replacement for Darren Lehmann. He is the Pakistan vice captain and may relish the chance of a full season in English domestic cricket after a successful tour here this summer.
