I feel Figo wouldn't be an positive signing for Newcastle, although he is a quality player, he could easily end up being a waste of money and time like Kluivert. He is 33 years old and only had 2-3 years of good service left in him. We have 8/9 quality midfielders players.  Souness needs to concentrate on the real problem, getting some quality strikers in the team.

I’m a long time fan living abroad – I change my satellite provider as the broadcasting rights for the premiership change. Ticks the wife off, but I get to watch the Toon fairly regularly

Interesting that Souness made a statement a while ago basically claiming that in the wake of the likes of Viana and Kluivert he was only going to go for experienced signings who have proven themselves in the Premiership.

So what’s all this talk of these foreign stars coming across here who wouldn’t know their Arsenal from their Emre?

I have every respect for Souness, and I’ve got a hundred quid on the boys finishing top 3, but looking at who they are looking to bring in,  and who we let go the last few seasons (the likes of Solano, Dabizas, Bernard, Woodgate, etc) it seems like we’re just shuffling the deck and hoping for good cards.

If you’re looking for someone who has proven themselves in the premiership and still fairly young, what about the guy who played for statistically the worst team in the league and still banged 20 goals in?  Why aren’t we chasing down Andrew Johnson like juiced up cheetah a wounded Gazelle? Doesn’t make much sense.

Final statement – He did it 2 seasons ago, he did it last season, and he’ll do it again this season. Watch out for young Titus Bumble kipping on the job, or even worse, making those predictable slow motion turns towards his own goal with no-one between him and the keeper, and getting mugged in the process.

He’s been very lucky very often. As soon as the opposition figure out that they should just anticipate the easy option every time then we’re stuffed.

Yes he’s getting better, but he’s still a liability, trying to be too cool when he should be showing a bit more urgency.

However – if we can keep everyone fit long enough it should be a good season for the boys.

I notice that the bookies have now made Souness the favourite to be the first Premiership Manager to let the chop in the coming season. That being the case and remember it is difficult to recruit a new manager early in a season who will replace Souness? I have my thoughts on this matter and view with some suspicion the appointment of Glenn Roeder to the Academy. My initial thought was that this was Fred keeping an ace up his sleeve in case things go badly wrong at the start of the season. Then I heard that Roeder was not interested in being a manager again, but what if he were a Director of Football? My money would be on a partnership of Roeder with Alan Shearer as Head Coach. This would enable Al to gain experience on the coaching and team handling side without having to worry about the management side. Just a thought! What do other fans think? Of course I hope we have a blinding season but even then I think the clock is ticking for Souness no matter what Fred says.

I think Laurent Roberts childish comments in the papers have been dealt with very professionally by the manager and chairman. I half expected one of them to react but they haven’t, and its shown Robert exactly who is the child.

I am worried about the fact we have not signed anybody put Parker. We need a striker first and foremost, because Shearer, Ameobi and Chopra will not be enough.

I am not too bothered about the lack of signings. We have two months yet. Everybody should calm down.

In reaction to that Spurs article, I, a
Newcastle fan attending University in London would like to say that Spurs are stupid, fickle fans. The way that they will make fun of me round her is ridiculous. They laugh at everything that goes wrong with Newcastle and any player we sign they say is useless. Robbie Keane is too good for Newcastle apparently and that we are the deluded ones.

Coming from fans who at one point believed they would sign Rivaldo – Ridiculous.
