PMS: Town 1-0 Swansea
By Sadie
February 18 2007
Sadie (Shady Blue Lady) is back giving us her own unique look at Town’s game against Swansea City yesterday.
Today’s line up for the 4th round cup tie against Swansea was Price, Sito (yes he still exists) Naylor, Wilnis (yes he still exists and makes his 300th appearance) Harding, Peters (who is still Canadian) Legwinski (Who is still hairy) Williams, Roberts, Clarke and Lee. On the bench we have Supple, Garvan, Casement (Who is still ginger and sponsored by STB) Haynes (Currently putting Kung Fu skills to practice) and O’Callaghan (Who looks like Glenn McGrath).
Of the 16 635 attendance a large proportion of the Cobbold stand is filled by the Welsh visitors.
Clarke is denied by the Swansea defence who then press up field in the 1st minute but their attacking ball is weak.
In the 2nd minute Lee is on the floor and Earnshaw’s an alien. A good tackle from Andy Robinson wins the ball from Williams but for some reason the ref gives a free kick in Town’s favour.
Onto 5 minutes Akinfenwa knocks down Naylor and has a free shot the shot goes wide and in the 6th minute Town keeper Price reaches for the stars.
Town are back on the attack in the 7th minute when Roberts finds Peters, Peters crosses the ball into the box, but it is blocked by Swansea defender Iriekpen then a minute later another Peters cross is blocked by Kyle Graves.
On the 9th minute we wonder who is shorter Jaime Peters or Swansea’s Leon Britton- It’s a mystery and in the 10th minute the north stand are throwing a sheep around (RSPCA members, don’t panic, it was only a blow up one).
In the 11th minute Robinson is offside but the lino is so slow that Robinson is not caught.
Town take control in the 12th minute, the ball starting with Price pretty much passes through every Town player until the ball goes towards Lee, and I’m sure we all know what happened next needless to say.
Onto 14 minutes Peters is continuing to play well on the right wing and in the 16th minute Tom Williams for Swansea on the left sends a long ball right, right into the North stand.
The Town strikers are both shown green on 17 this rattles Clarke but Lee is more than familiar.
Clarke finds Peters in the 18th minute but his long range shot goes over the bar.
Harding and Britton are battling for the ball, Harding wins but then loses out to Pratley.
It is the battle of the Williams on 20 minutes as Gavin Williams for Town and Tom Williams for Swansea are both going for the ball, who’s going to win? Place bets now.
Tom Williams wins the throw and with that play heads toward the Town goal, but Price and his hands stop the ball from crossing the line. Yippee.
Clarke is aiming for the south score board on 22 minutes and Garvan, Casement and O’Callaghan come out for a run, I expect Supple farted or Haynes was maybe showing signs of a rage in kung fu world the way those 3 were running.
Anyhoo a Peters ball to Legwinski is shot just inches wide.
On 24 minutes the police in the Cobbold look like they are planning an ambush, meanwhile something, somewhere is happening I recon, and Magilton is swearing at the lino.
On 26 minutes O’Callaghan says something to do with a bull and an ox.
Butler is showing off his gymnastic skills in the 27th minute using Naylor as a podium and on 28 minutes I wonder how Alan Lee can possibly be so dirty from doing nothing, the maths just don’t add up.
Wilnis produces a good tackle on Butler in the 31st minute as Swansea attack, a ball crossed in is caught by Price and the Swansea attack is over.
32 minutes, Supple and Haynes are warming up, someone’s sheep has escaped, and challenges are coming in here there and everywhere, oh my gosh…
Fast forward to 37 minutes when something happened giving Swansea a free kick, this somehow leads to Lee on a run, Roberts cross hit Lee’s head and flew off somewhere.
Wilnis makes a good challenge on Pratley on 39 minutes but as Harding is not watching this allows Swansea to continue attacking on the wing, this time the attack ends with 3 players offside.
On 40 minutes Pratley doesn’t want to let go of Legwinski, which I suppose is understandable as it was rather chilly and I expect the Legwinski fur would be quite warming, just like that Cup-a-soup commercial, Legwinski is the real hug in a mug, then Town have a corner which Robinson tries to clear but only as far as Sito who finds Clarke, but he shoots over.
Clarke and Peters practice their synchronized sports both rolling around on 42 minutes.
At the end of the 1st half 1 minute is added during which Pratley is booked for persistent fouling.
That’s it, half-time 0-0.
There are no changes for the restart and it is quick into action, like a granny on the dance floor, with Clarke and Duffy going for the head in the Swansea box, the ball goes out of play and a Town corner is given, Williams sends the ball into the box, in which play is as messy as a 3 year old with paints, the ball comes away from the box but remains in Towns possession.
In the 47th minute Town are again on the attack with Peters and Clarke, Clarke loses out to Duffy and Swansea attack for which Williams seems to be the only player ready to defend, Swansea win a free kick taken by Robinson the ball is on target but not enough to trouble Price.
In the 49th minute Clarke heads the ball in the wrong direction then a blatant handball by Robinson is dismissed as hitting his chest.
A minute later Price denies a Swansea chance with his fingertips and once again Wilnis is the only one around to help, Swansea receive a corner kick which Price Jumps to collect.
After a mistake by the Swansea midfield Roberts got away with the ball and headed towards the Swansea goal before Robinson heavily got in the way warning himself a booking and giving Town a free kick. Roberts takes the kick but it is straight over and out.
On 60 minutes Sito gives away a corner as Akinfenwa comes dangerously close to scoring.
Naylor is replaced by Casement on 61 minutes after showing obvious signs of a struggle, then in the 62nd minute Roberts is hassled by both Tate and Britton giving Town a free kick which Peters hits wide, unknown to us at the time he was pulled down and a penalty is given. We patiently wait for Alan Lee to step up but soon become impatient as too does referee with Swansea keeper Willy Gueret as he ignores Mr. Miller’s instructions to get back on his line, for which he receives a booking, finally Lee gets to take the spot kick and sends the ball to the bottom left hand corner of the net, 1-0 to the tractor boys.
On 65 minutes Pratley is replaced by Lee Trundle, then on 68 minutes Britton is left in space to attack the Town goal pressuring Price who pulls off a fantastic quick save with his foot, then Clarke is replaced by Garvan.
69 minutes, lets start playing a game, who is going to give the ball away next.
On 71 minutes a Town corner left Duffy needing treatment, then onto 77 minutes when Swansea pass the ball straight across the face of the Town goal losing out on a golden opportunity.
Akinfenwa is replaced by Abbott.
In the 78th minute something happens between Lee and Tom Williams, I’m not too sure what as play was elsewhere and I was actually watching it for once, anyway apparently Lee was on the receiving end of a kick but they both end up in the book and Swansea have the free kick in their own half, never mind it is soon out for a Town goal kick.
Funky sock competition is a tie, not literally, although that is a good idea, I mean it’s a draw… oh never mind there was no winner today.
Onto 83 minutes Britton takes out Harding, the Ref writes down something but doesn’t show a card maybe he was just getting his phone number, anyway Town have the free kick (I nearly couldn’t finish writing this as a huge gust of wind blew through my flat and blew away my notes, oh it was a moment of panic) which somehow ends up being behind Prices goal.
Both Williams go off being replaced by Painter for Swansea and Haynes for Town.
In the 86th minute Swansea have a free kick for an apparent Town handball but the kick is caught by the safe hands of Price.
Town then find themselves the receivers of a free kick from an Alan Lee sandwich, mmm tasty, Anyhoo when the ball comes into the box Gueret punches clear and almost punches Lee in the head at the same time.
Into the last minute of the 90 Casement clears the ball from the Town box giving Roberts the run up field, Duffy takes the opportunity to throw Roberts over and also ends up in the book.
5 minutes injury time is added during which Price makes a good save, I wonder what the point is in being booked for a professional foul if it’s professional? Lee pulls his hamstring and his hair, Sito is booked for lunging in giving a free kick to Swansea, Robinson sends it straight over, before hiding his head under his shirt, good work by Sito end the game and the Tractor Boys are through to the 5th round for the first time in 50 Billion years (Or something like that).
