Durham not good enough to beat Somerset

The bowlers couldn't repeat their first innings display and Somerset reached their target with the loss of just 4 wickets. Basically we didn't score enough runs...

Despite taking the wicket of Cox early in the day, our bowlers were made to work hard as the Somerset batsmen enjoyed better conditions than for the rest of the match and didn't give anything away.

Harmy made the early breakthrough getting Cox caught behind for just ten. Then, in what was practically the first bit of consistent batting of the match the Somerset pair of Bowler and Bryant won them the game.

Bryant was finally dismissed by Phillips with the score on 171 which brought Johnson to the wicket where he hits 23 in just seven balls including 3 sixes off the bowling if Phillips.

We really didn't score enough runs to win the game, a great bowling performance in the first innings kept us in with a chance but with the batsmen failing in the second innings it was just too much to hope for that we could skittle Somerset again.

The bowling looks in good shape and with Pretorius and Davies back for the next championship match it does make you wonder why Srinath was signed as cover for Love instead of another batsmen, even before Colly was injusred it seemed like a strange move.

A bit more consistency from the younger batsmen and we could get some good results this season...
