Formerly played for the Blues Super 12 Development squad and Otago Colts. Brent arrived this summer on a one year deal, having joined from New Zealand’s North Harbour province after six months on loan at Leicester Tigers. He scored a try for the Tigers in game against the Barbarians in March 2006. Previously he had accumulated 25 caps for North Harbour, specialising at blindside flanker but with the ability to play across the entire back row.

With international experience at Sevens level, Brent was first named in a New Zealand Sevens training squad in November 2004, and was part of the squad that went onto win the IRB Sevens Series in the 2004/2005 season.

Rob Andrew has compared Brent to our former back rower Craig Newby and ex-Falcons academy manager Paul Mackinnon, now player development manager at North Harbour, has described Brent as “a strong ball carrier in the middle and wide channels, an excellent line out forward with good pace and skills who links well. He is a consistently strong tackler in defence and a good athlete overall.”

Fact: Brent does not count as an overseas player due to his wife Janelle’s British passport.
