Falcons Confirm Pre Season Friendlies

Newcastle Falcons have today confirmed their pre season friendlies, which will see them taking on the celts as they are lined up to play Glasgow and Llanelli.
Both matches are away fixtures, which in view of Newcastle's poor record away from home last season is probably a good thing. Falcons won only 1 of 11 away league matches during the 2002/03 season. If we are to finish higher up the table this season that ratio has to improve.
Glasgow
After finishing 2nd in Pool B of the Celtic League last season before being knocked out in the Quarter-Finals by Ulster, Glasgow Warriors have made several signings over the summer including that of Newcastle Falcons' Garath Maclure, and Leeds Tykes' Cammie Mather. With several new faces in the side Glasgow will be looking to consolidate their team line up before they face the new Cardiff Blues side in their first Celtic League match of the new season.

Llanelli
Llanelli, who finished 5th in Pool A of the 2002/03 Celtic League, take on their compaatriots Gwent Dragons in their first competitive match of the season. Llanelli is really the only Welsh side to retain it's unique identity with others merging as part of the recent restructuring of Welsh rugby.
Coached by Gareth Jenkins, The Scarlets have some well known names in their squad, including Simon Easterby, Scott Quinnell, Robin McBryde, Martyn Madden and Stephen Jones.

Nichola Rice, Newcastle Falcons PR & Media Officer, said the club are waiting for the finalised 2003/04 fixture list, which is to be confirmed by Premier Rugby. The decision is expected to be made this week.
