Calling all 'armchair' (or should that be 'bar-stool'?) rugby fans, it's time to put down that pint and prise yourself away from the rugby club bar and out onto the pitch...

Or even the beach...

As part of Gilbert's series of Touch Rugby Festivals Newcastle Falcons' Community Team are running two events in August. The first is at Darlington Mowden Park, and the second takes place on the beach at Tynemouth.

Sunday 24th August - Darlington Mowden Park RFC, 1pm start.

Sunday 31st August - Tynemouth Beach, 1pm start.

Both festivals are expected to last a couple of hours.

Budding Wilkinson or Complete Novice

The festivals are open to everyone over 16 years old - whether you're a budding Jonny Wilkinson or Marius Hurter or have never played rugby in your life! All that matters is that you're prepared to have a go!

The club stress that the "Festivals are as much about having fun as they are about playing rugby" and in case you were worrying about that abandoned pint the bars will open, along with a barbeque. Also some of the Falcons players will be coming along to watch.... (Editors note: Maybe we should ask one of them to do the match report?)

The Criteria

You must be over 16.
Games are 6-a-side.
Squads are of up to 10 players.
You must have a least one female player on the pitch at all times
You can have only 3 recognised rugby players in your squad.

A recognised rugby player is someone (male or female) who has played regularly in the past twelve months.

Alternatively individuals can also enter & will be assigned a team.

Entry cost is £5 per person or £40 for a squad.

The top 2 sides will go through to the finals, which will be held at Kingston Park, the winners' prize is a £250 voucher for Gilbert rugby equipment.

So whether you want to win the £250 for your local club, or get the chance to run around at Kingston Park or just fancy a sociable day out at the beach rugby making a fool of yourself get signed up!
