Darlington last night polished off one of League 2's newest arrivals, with a a 2-0 win over Chris Turner's Stockport County.
Newly relegated County, were among other favourites to gain promotion to League 1, but were seen off by goals from Carlos Logan and Akpo Sodje respectively.
New signing Shelton Martis crossed for Logan after good work from Neil Wainwright on the right. Logan marked his home debut with a cool finish and impressive display, until being forced off the field with cramp soon into the second half.
The game did not always go Quakers way, and Sam Russell was forced to make a good save in both halves, the first from a blistering shot, the second from a one-on-one just before the second goal. Joey Hutchinson and skipper Matt Clarke were also called into making some well timed last ditch tackles.
When it looked like Darlo fans were content with a narrow win, Neil Wainwright crossed for substitute Akpo Sodje to head home in the 89th minute to round off an impressive 2-0 victory for the Quakers.
