Bring Back Safegate – All is Forgiven

Having had time to reflect on the shambles of Wednesday nights defeat to Argentina, one thing is clear and that is Thomas Tuchel must go.

He out Southgated Gareth Southgate to conspire to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against an Argentina team that were there for the taking when we led 1 – 0.

Southgate was slaughtered during his reign for being too negative, a fair criticism in my opinion. But he never went to the depths of negativity that Tuchel did on Wednesday night.

Bringing on defender after defender to sit back and defend a lead against the world’s best ever player was never going to work. Everyone in the pub knew that so why didn’t the England manager.

His abysmal tactics against Argentina are the worst I have ever witnessed from an England manager and the most sackable offence I have seen in any workplace.

He has to go, he has to go now, don’t even let him take charge of the meaningless third place game.

The FA surely can’t be considering keeping him on after that. He is a fraud of a manager who has luckily ended up at big jobs such as PSG and Bayern so he was bound to win things. I will give him credit for Chelsea’s Champions League victory, but we must also remember he was at the helm for Bayern’s only none title winning season in about a million years.

We have been poor all tournament but managed to scrape through, his squad selection was baffling in many areas. Despite all of this, if we had lost to Argentina, even having led, by playing football and being beaten by the better team then I would say he probably deserves the Euros as well.

But we weren’t. We lost for one reason only, his ridiculous tactics. And to say he has no regrets and put the blame on to the players ‘DNA’ makes his position totally untenable.

Despite the criticisms I had of Southgate, I never once called for his head and had someone told me prior to the Argentina game that I would be calling for Tuchel to be sacked after guiding us to a semi-final I wouldn’t have believed them.

But the way we lost is simply unforgiveable and he must not be in charge come England’s next game after this farcical encounter on Saturday.
