Fortunately it’s a canal not a creek and Stuart and Briggsy have taken not one but two paddles with them. Their perilous journey through the wild waters of Wales back to civilisation begins here.
Day 1
Stuart and Briggsy set off early and reached the Trevor Basin between 9 and 10 am. They were met there by Santa Stan, Levellershark and their dog amongst others. All reports say they were paddling well and looking fit!
The next stage of their journey will see
them cross the Froncysyllte Aqueduct which Briggsy apparently is really looking
forward to crossing! Their route will take in the Langollen
Canal, Trent
and Mersey Canal
and the Macclesfield
Canal. They hope to
finish Friday evening or Saturday morning, depending on progress, at the High Lane stretch
of the canal near the scout hut by the Bulls Head (Buxton Road, High Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, SK6 8BH).
We will keep you up to datee with bridge numbers and 'A'roads so you can meet
them along their journey and say 'hello!' as they paddle along.
Don't miss Granada Reports on Tuesday night as they will be featured explaining
what they are doing and why they re doing it.
Stuart and Neil are raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) which is dedicated to funding research to find a cure for type 1 (juvenile) diabetes, which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.

So far supporters have raised £ 2,485.47 online. Sale Sharks sponsors Bluemantle have also
donated a further £600 and the Sale Sharks Supporters Club have added another

The Boars head in Higher Poynton is close to the canal and pours a good pint, about a mile from the finish, if anyone wants to walk with them for the last stretch. There's car park attached to the Middlewood Way and Canal Opposite.
Super human effort if they get that find mind: there are an awful lot of locks before Congleton!

Ah! they have a cunning device to use to get the canoe around locks.

They are due to be on Granada reports tonight Wed.
ITV Wales are also trying to catch up with them at some point, but have been diverted to another happening!
Met a couple in Narrow boat from Edgeley, Sharks supporters of course and they parted with a donation - thanks to Alan & Pat Williams. Last seen waving a Sharks flag.

They will probably feel like hell in the morning. They said they were going to get up at sunrise and get going early. Anyone got any alarm clocks to spare?

Just had word that the lads have reached Buglawton. Santa Stan has picked the up and they're off to the Queen's Arms on the Macclesfield to Leek road.

I have just spoken to Stuart and he says they are well ahead of schedule and hope to finish tomorrow evening (Friday) at the at the High Lane stretch of the canal near the scout hut by the Bulls Head (Buxton Road, High Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, SK6 8BH).

Along with SantaStan and Leveller I've just spent the evening with Stuart and Briggsy - more details when I have time tomorrow but the current plan is that we meet them at the Boar's Head in Higher Poynton around 5.30ish tomorrow evening - we will then walk the last mile to High Lane with them and join in the celebrations at the end.
Hope you can be there!

After a very long paddle today, we 'collected' Briggsy and Stuart from bridge 61 on the Macclesfield canal and took them to the Queens pub in Bosley. They even did well in the pub quiz.
They are setting off tomorrow for the final lap of the journey and hope to be in High Lane at about 7pm.
If you want to walk the final mile or so with them, be at the Boars Head Higher Poynton at about 5.30, which will give you time to sample a pint or two before walking
We also collected another £40 for the charity.

Met the lads at Lads at Lyme Green, fed them beef pies and sent them on their at 2.15 so they should made the Boars Head by 5.30ish (no more locks!)

we are back home now and i feel knackered.it real has taken it out of me, alot harder than i thaught.
very quickly i want to say thanks for all your support and a special thanks to angela for keeping you up to date,the messages got less the further in as it was hard enough paddling.
then there is a HUGE thank you to two very special people who kept us going in so many ways,their support went far beyond what we could of ever imagined or hoped for.out of the things i will take out of my trip with briggsy what Stan and Sandra have done will be very close to the top of the list,i could list what they have done but it would over take what we have done, thank you so much and you are really two of the "nicest" people i have been lucky enough to meet and now call friends.
