Sale 12 Bath 25

Two games in; an unexpected win against Leicester and a draw at Newcastle. Next up, Bath, without a win in their first two games, but never to be underestimated. Could the new look Sale keep Bath down at the bottom, or would the fresh, young tyros succumb to the more experienced south-westerners?

Succumb.

Badly.

Embarrassingly.

From Sale's perspective, this game was a real low point. Aimless hoofing of the ball upfield, missed touch kicks, dropped balls, missed tackles, it had it all.Three tries against, none for. Failing score from 5 metres out against 13 men must go down in the annals of blown opportunity.

Ach, I can't bear to re-live it. Read the newspaper reports. Or don't. Just confine it to a bad memory, lower expectations to survival and get on with it. Unless something major happens soon, I doubt we'll be seeing Heineken Cup rugby at EP next season.

Survive. Rebuild. Survive. That's what this season holds, I fear.
